Tom Purcell's Blog: Ban the Burger Month
I read your editorial on "guardians of ageless honor preseving legacy of veterans". It was a wonderful piece and I wated to let you know that there are more of us veterans out here performing the same service for our veterans. I am an active member of the Millard Funeral Honors Detail of Omaha, NE. We extend funeral honors to approximately 150 deceased veterans a year in the metro Omaha area. We are a combination of American Legion Post 374 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8334. We have 30 veterans in our volunteer ranks, with approximately 18 very active members performing this important service for our veterans. I salute the veteran volunteers of American Legion Post 760 and VFW Post 6664 for their dedication to our veterans and their families. As for myself, I am a Navy veteran and am retired from the Air Force, but my service to my fellow veterans and country has never stopped. The average age of our volunteer honor guard is 71 years old, and we have three female members. Great article, Tom.
