Great story. I'm from the 80's and we weren't hyper-protected either, although it was starting by the time I could ride a bike. I didn't wear a helmet most of the time though. Today, however, I would not even dare biking without a helmet, and I'm a full-grown adult.

Ah, the memories you bring back, Tom. We were indeed freer from hyper-protection. I fell off my bike maybe three times and have the scars to prove it - and lo and behold I lived.
